Canadian Bear Hunting
Plan your next fall hunt in Ontario's Sunset Country. Bears in Ontario, Canada come in many color phases from black to brown to cinnamon. Big males can weigh up to 650 pounds. The experienced outfitters in the area will help you get your trophy. A non resident who wishes to hunt for this species in Ontario must have a hunting license validation certificate to validate a non-resident license. This certificate can be obtained from a tourist operator (operator of a tourist establishment, guide or air carrier) licensed in Ontario. For more information on the rules and regulations for your hunt, you can download the complete hunting regulations from the Ministry of Natural Resources.
As you embark on your Canadian bear hunt, there are two options available in how to find bears. The preferred method of bear hunting in Northwestern Ontario is baiting with the hunter waiting for the animal to come to the baits. Ground blinds or tree stands are the methods used by hunters waiting on a bait. The other method - most amenable to more open areas is spotting and stalking the animals. Ontario bears are most commonly taken with high powered rifles although shotguns loaded with slugs are effective from the short ranges offered by tree stands or ground blinds.
